We make millions of decisions as we proceed through our lives. Some are simple choices like what to eat for lunch or which message to reply to. While others are complex like ” when hiring, we compare multiple applicants to identify the best candidate”. When people ” faced with such decisions”, they whether review all options then choose the best or ” examine one option at a time”.
Shankha Basu and Krishna Savani in their study examined ” how these two ways of evaluating options can influence people’s choices”. They found that “those who viewed options individually chose the best option 75% of the time, while those who viewed options together identified the best product 84% of the time”. Looking at all the options together is the great method in making any choice because “people can compare the options more thoroughly and can more easily identify the best option. But when people view options one at a time, they form an overall judgment about each option and then have to go back and compare”. In short, reviewing/ examining all your options together is the best way to make a good decision.
